Windows 7 release dateWe've known, for a while now, when Windows 7 would make its grand debut, but Microsoft has until now been mum on the pricing. That's no longer the case, and apparently Microsoft is taking the same tack that's worked for GameStop, Target and Walmart -- offering additional discounts if you pre-order Windows 7.

Pre-order Windows 7 within the next two weeks and you'll get discounts of more than fifty percent. This applies to customers in the USA, Canada and Japan, and the offer ends July 11. UK customers will have the same pre-order opportunity twixt July 15 and August 14.

Windows 7, like previous Windows OS products, will come in a few different flavors, with different features and of course, pricing.

  • Windows 7 Home Premium - $199

  • Upgrade from Vista or XP and you get Windows 7 for $119

  • Windows 7 Professional is $299

  • Upgrades to Win 7 Pro cost $199

  • Windows 7 Ultimate can be yours for $319

  • Upgrades to Win 7 Ultimate are $219

If you haven't yet tried Windows 7, you can still get it from the Windows 7 Official Site. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

We've seen Windows 7 working flawlessly on the most popular netbooks, so check out our side-by-side comparisons, or stick with the blog for more tech news:
