Windows 7 RC Officially Coming; XP Not Quite Dead Yet

Windows 7 proper might not be available until October, but Microsoft is giving a free pass to those who already have the Windows 7 release candidate (and those who want it) until June 1, 2010. That's over a year of free OS usage, something you don't see unless you "purchase" the "legit" copy from "the guy you know who knows a guy..."

More surprising news regarding XP below...

OEMs haven't been able to ship Windows XP on their laptops or desktops for a while now, but it still retains a 96% grip on the netbook OS market. I'm no netbook statistics scientist, but it seems like it would be a bad move to pluck XP from netbook OEMs anytime soon.

As for Windows 7 RC, it's coming May 5th from Microsoft, so stay tuned. For more tech news this weekend, click another link below.
